Student Report Cards will be sent home with each child on Friday 10th December.
Student Report cards provide parents with clear, comprehensive and consistent information about their child’s progress in Year Prep to Year 10, as well as suggestions on how to best support their child’s learning.
During the evaluation process, information about children is gathered from testing programs, anecdotal records, informal observation and parent/teacher interviews.
It must be remembered that throughout their school lives children of approximately the same age will vary greatly in achievement. This occurs because of individual differences in intellectual, physical, emotional and social maturity. Consequently, teachers do not expect all children in their class to attain the same scholastic levels, but rather that they work positively and energetically towards the highest standard of which they are capable, doing their personal best! –‘Striving for Excellence’ (school motto). These reports will grade all students with rating codes compared to Department expectations.
All Victorian schools have to use a standard report structure designed by the Department of Education. At Puckapunyal P.S., assessment and reporting procedures are consistent with the current guidelines outlined in the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.
The aim of all reports is to provide meaningful information to parents on the total education of their children. Reports are designed to give comprehensive information about your child’s achievements with respect to his/her ability in the following V.E.L.S. key learning areas - English, Mathematics, Humanities, Physical and Sport Education, Health, Library, Technology, Science and The Arts (not all Year levels are reported for all key learning areas). The following table indicates the correlation between V.E.L.S. levels and grade levels: Prep = Level 1, Years 1/2 = Level 2, Years 3/4 = Level 3, Years 5/6 = Level 4
Please read the following rating codes to be aware of what they mean.
The Performance Rating codes used in the report for the Curriculum are :
A. 12 months - 2 years ahead of Year Level expectations for this time of the year
B. 6 months - 1 year ahead of Year Level expectations for this time of the year
C. At Year Level expectations for this time of the year
D. 6 months - 1 year below Year Level expectations for this time of the year
E. 12 months - 2 years below Year Level expectations for this time of the year
NB - a ‘C’ is the desired expectation for any student at all Year levels. Some students will receive a ‘B’ and fewer students again will receive an ‘A’.
